GOLFWAYPOINT

Data, coverage & methodology

Useful planning starts with knowing what the data does—and does not—say.

Current course coverage

Our first release uses the OpenGolfAPI United States export. It contains 15,667 normalized records in this build. It is not a complete global golf directory and it does not guarantee that every record describes a currently operating, separately bookable course.

13,137records with a website
468recognized hole counts
0invalid records excluded

Snapshot imported 2026-10-03. The import date is when this site obtained the file, not when each club confirmed its details. Source export date: 2026-04-20T19:48:41.793Z. Source revision: f41c0fa30484e64ccef1e75a24e4599fd26c83c5.

Sources and reuse

Contains data from OpenGolfAPI and OpenStreetMap contributors. Our normalized database is available under the Open Database License 1.0, including its attribution and share-alike requirements.

You can also inspect the pinned original release. The data file includes IDs, facts, source revision, licence and import metadata. The website interface and editorial text are separate from the database licence.

How records are handled

We require a name and valid Point coordinates, remove identical duplicate IDs and stop an import if the same ID has conflicting facts. Missing access does not become “public”. Missing prices do not become zero. Unrecognized hole counts are shown as unconfirmed rather than silently describing partially mapped holes as a complete layout.

A public, municipal, private or resort label is the source classification, not permission to play. “Par-3” describes a layout, not access. Source websites and phone numbers may change. We do not reproduce third-party reviews, star ratings, course photographs or live booking inventory.

Daylight calculation

The local tool uses a simplified solar-event approximation with the standard 90.833° solar zenith for sunrise and sunset. It works from date, latitude and longitude, then displays UTC instants in your explicitly selected destination time zone. Polar day/night is shown as a special case rather than an invented clock time.

This is an approximate recreational planning model, not a weather forecast or an official NOAA product. As NOAA’s calculation notes explain, atmosphere and location affect observed sunrise and sunset. Our simplified implementation does not claim NOAA’s accuracy. Terrain, trees and clouds are not included. Add a generous margin and follow course guidance.

Trip budget and distance

Green fees are entered per player; room costs are nights × rooms × nightly rate; group transport and extras are added once. The total is divided equally by player count. Blank round fees produce an incomplete-cost warning. No exchange rate or automated price source is applied.

Nearby course distances use the haversine formula and a mean Earth radius of 6,371.0088 km. They are straight-line distances, not drive times. They do not account for roads, bridges, borders or access restrictions.
